Classics 4 Kids is a local non-profit organization founded in 1994, and serves 20,000- 30,000 children annually. Our focus is creating an integrated arts education experience for younger elementary school children, and using music and the arts to engage children in classroom learning. We work with many schools throughout the County, and have formalized partnerships with San Diego Unified and San Ysidro School Districts. Many children in our program are from underserved communities and are facing a long road with little educational support. Classics 4 Kids proven arts-based learning model is reaching these children, and helping them to learn and succeed. Classics 4 Kids is devoted to increasing lifelong participation in music and the arts, stimulating creativity and imagination, and improving academic achievement for children through professional orchestra concerts and educational programs designed to engage and inspire young audiences. The key elements of our program are: -Professional Development for General Classroom Teachers: Workshops coordinating with concerts offer information about specific composers, musical genres, and arts learning techniques. Teachers learn creative ways to integrate music and the arts into daily lessons along with core academic subjects. -Curriculum: Developed by Classics 4 Kids in collaboration with our education partners, provides unique lessons incorporating CA state arts education standards and easily replicable lessons that stimulate cross-curricular learning. Literature, paired with each concert, encourages reading and increases understanding. -Student Concerts: Created by Classics 4 Kids and performed by The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra in professional theatres, concerts offer students an unparalleled age-appropriate introduction to music. Our unique approach of combining relevant music instruction from the stage along with entertaining, interactive programs captures both the attention and imagination of our young audiences. The Classics Philharmonic, our resident professional orchestra, performs music by a variety of composers with special guest artists including actors, dancers, singers, and other artists. -Follow Up & Assessment: Classroom follow-up activities allow students to reflect, connect, apply, and derive meaning from the concert experience. Participating teachers are required to provide input that enables Classics 4 Kids to better meet the needs of the educational community. Family Concerts & Programs- Passionate about providing high quality music education for children, Classics 4 Kids offers our entertaining and education concert series to the general public. Smaller, hands-on music education classes offer families the opportunity to introduce youngsters to music in a fun and accessible environment.
