REALITY CHANGERS Beginning with four 8th graders and just $300 in 2001, Reality Changers has served low-income, inner-city youth and produced the following results: • Awarded over $450,000 in scholarships to first generation college students in 2009 • Awarded over $1,400,000 in scholarships since the program’s inception • Produced students who earned over $5,000,000 in scholarships from all sources • Produced four students who have received full-ride scholarships to Ivy League schools – Harvard (2), Dartmouth (2) • Produced 50 first generation college students from 2001-2008; will produce over 70 more in 2009 and 2010 • Motivated students, families, and tutors to perform over 20,000 hours of community service during the past 12 months • Sent over 200 students to UC San Diego's Academic Connections, where high school students from around the world live on a college campus, take genuine college courses, and earn real college credit • Produced a 200-page template for other inner-city neighborhoods to replicate Reality Changers’ success in their urban communities • Arranged an exclusive partnership with a scholarship endowment worth over $500,000 • Recorded a 100% pass rate after every round of random drug testing However, Reality Changers' most significant achievements cannot be quantified merely by numbers alone. Reality Changers exemplifies excellence and innovation in its field because the same program that motivated Reality Changers’ graduate, Jesse Sanchez, to defy his family’s $8,000 annual income and pursue his dream of a full-ride to Harvard also inspired recent applicant, Carlos Garcia, to “throw away his bullets” and seek higher education. Such results will endure for generations and are repeated regularly by each successive class of Reality Changers.
